Product Description
Acetic Acid is a clear, colorless, highly polar liquid with a strong, pungent odor reminiscent of vinegar. It is completely miscible with water, alcohol, and ether, forming acidic solutions with a pH around 2.4 (1M solution). Acetic acid is highly corrosive to metals and tissue, capable of causing blisters on skin contact. It is a protic solvent, dissolving both polar and some non-polar compounds, and is widely used as a versatile intermediate in chemical, food, and industrial applications.

Application Sectors and Industries of Acetic Acid
Food and Beverage Industry
Acetic acid is the key component of vinegar, used as a food additive (E260) for flavoring, pickling, and preserving. It is vital in the production of condiments, salad dressings, and marinades, and acts as a natural preservative and acidity regulator.
Chemical Manufacturing
Widely used as a precursor for chemicals like acetic anhydride, acetate esters, vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), and purified terephthalic acid (PTA). Acetic acid is essential for producing solvents, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and synthetic fibers.
Textile and Fiber Industry
Acetic acid is used in the production of cellulose acetate fibers for textiles and photographic films. It also serves as a solvent and pH regulator in dyeing and finishing processes, ensuring color fastness and fabric quality.
Plastics and Polymers
Integral in the synthesis of polymers such as polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is also used as a solvent in resin and adhesive manufacturing.
Cleaning and Disinfection
Acetic acid’s acidic properties make it effective for cleaning, descaling, and disinfecting surfaces in both household and industrial settings. It is a natural alternative to harsh chemicals for removing mineral deposits and sanitizing equipment.
Water Treatment
Used to control pH and neutralize alkaline water in municipal and industrial water treatment plants. Acetic acid also aids in the removal of scale and heavy metals.
Pharmaceuticals
Acts as a reagent and excipient in pharmaceutical formulations, and is used in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), antibiotics, and vitamins.
Laboratory and Analytical Applications
Employed as a solvent, reagent, and pH regulator in chemical analysis, histology, and tissue processing. Acetic acid is also used in buffer solutions and titrations.
Agriculture and Herbicides
Used as a natural herbicide and weed killer, acetic acid helps control unwanted vegetation. It is also a component in the production of acetate-based fertilizers.
Paints, Inks, and Coatings
Serves as a process solvent and acidulant in the manufacture of paints, inks, coatings, adhesives, and paper coatings, enhancing product performance and stability.
