Product Description
Ethanol is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a mild, characteristic odor and a slightly sweet taste. It is fully miscible with water and most organic solvents, making it an extremely versatile solvent. Ethanol is non-corrosive, neutral (pH 6–8), and not alkaline. It burns with a smokeless blue flame and has a low freezing point and moderate boiling point. Ethanol is stable under normal storage conditions but is highly flammable and hygroscopic (absorbs water from the air).

Application Sectors and Industries of Ethanol
Pharmaceuticals & Medical
Ethanol is a key solvent and disinfectant in the pharmaceutical industry, used for the formulation of tinctures, sanitizers, and as a preservative in medicines. It is also an essential component in hand sanitizers and medical wipes due to its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
Food & Beverage
As the main ingredient in alcoholic beverages, ethanol is also used as a food-grade solvent for flavorings, colorants, and extracts. It serves as a processing aid and preservative in food production.
Cosmetics & Personal Care
Ethanol acts as a solvent and carrier in perfumes, deodorants, aftershaves, and hair sprays. It enhances product texture, promotes rapid drying, and serves as an astringent in skincare products.
Chemical Manufacturing
Used as a universal solvent and intermediate in the synthesis of esters, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, and other chemicals. Ethanol is a key feedstock in the production of specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Paints, Coatings & Inks
Ethanol is a solvent in the formulation of paints, varnishes, and printing inks. It improves flow, drying time, and pigment dispersion for high-quality finishes.
Cleaning & Disinfectants
Widely used in surface cleaners, glass cleaners, and industrial degreasers. Its rapid evaporation and antimicrobial properties make it ideal for both household and institutional cleaning products.
Automotive & Fuel
Ethanol is blended with gasoline to produce biofuels (e.g., E10, E85), reducing emissions and improving combustion efficiency. It is also used as a fuel system cleaner and antifreeze agent.
Laboratory & Research
A staple solvent for chemical analysis, sample preparation, and DNA/RNA extraction. Ethanol is used for sterilizing equipment and preserving biological specimens.
Textiles & Leather
Acts as a solvent and wetting agent in dyeing, printing, and finishing processes. Ethanol helps achieve even coloration and improves the softness of textiles and leather.
Electronics
Used for cleaning and degreasing electronic components and circuit boards, ensuring residue-free surfaces for assembly and repair.
Agriculture
Serves as a carrier solvent for pesticides and herbicides, and as a disinfectant for equipment and tools in agricultural operations.
