Product Description
Sodium Sulfate is a non-corrosive, odorless, and water-soluble inorganic compound. It appears as a white crystalline solid with a neutral pH (~7 in solution). Highly stable under normal conditions, it absorbs moisture from air (hygroscopic) but does not react violently with most substances. Its high solubility in water (47.6 g/100 mL at 0°C) and thermal stability (melting point 884°C) make it versatile for industrial applications.

Application Sectors and Industries of Sodium Sulfate
Detergent Manufacturing
Acts as a filler in powdered laundry detergents, improving flowability and reducing production costs. Enhances surfactant efficiency by softening hard water.
Glass Production
Removes air bubbles from molten glass during refining, ensuring clarity and structural integrity. Lowers silica’s melting point, reducing energy consumption.
Textile Industry
Serves as a leveling agent in dyeing processes, ensuring uniform color absorption. Neutralizes acidic residues in synthetic fiber production.
Pulp and Paper Processing
Used in the kraft process to recover chemicals and delignify wood pulp. Improves paper brightness and reduces energy use in pulping.
Water Treatment
Neutralizes acidic wastewater and precipitates heavy metals (e.g., lead, copper). Protects pipelines from corrosion in municipal systems.
Food Industry (E514)
Approved as a food additive for pH adjustment, anticaking, and thickening in products like dairy, cereals, and bottled water.
Pharmaceuticals
Acts as an inert filler in tablet formulations and a laxative for detoxification. Used in intravenous solutions to maintain electrolyte balance.
Chemical Synthesis
Precursor for sodium sulfide, sodium bisulfate, and sodium silicate. Used in dye intermediates and battery recycling processes.
Mining and Metallurgy
Facilitates ore flotation to separate metals like copper and zinc. Neutralizes acidic byproducts in steel manufacturing.
Environmental Remediation
Treats contaminated soils and industrial effluents by immobilizing heavy metals. Used in sulfur dioxide (SO₂) scrubbing systems.
