Product Description
Sodium Sulfide is a hygroscopic, corrosive solid with a strong alkaline nature. Commercial grades (e.g., Sodium Sulfide 60-58) appear yellow to brick-red due to polysulfide impurities. It is highly soluble in water, forming a strongly alkaline solution (pH >12). The compound reacts violently with acids, releasing toxic hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) gas, and oxidizes in air to form sulfates. Its high reactivity and moisture sensitivity necessitate airtight storage.
